I like shadows! The way you can tell what things are
by looking at them, the way they play with each other by
firelight, the way they can create new and amazing creatures
when multiple items are combined. Look at a Jack-O-Lantern,
a carved pumpkin until you put in a candle, firelight! Amazing!
The way the eyes blink and the mouth seems to move. Like
it's taunting you to prove that it is not alive! Look at
a small child when they see their first one, wonderment!
A child will love it and be frightened of it at the same
time. Why, the shadows, without them it is just another
carved melon. Shadows scare and amaze, no one knew that
the tree outside the window made the boogie man on the wall.
Branches tapping on the glass, shadow arms moving in the
wind. Shadows awaken the imagination and the play on fears.
They are at the very heart of inspiration!
I have no idea where this came from, but I
think I like it. After all, without shadows it would be
a pretty bland world.
If any of you have sat in a room with only
one light, a table, paper and a pen, you should do it again.
It's not like typical insomnia, you actually think. It is
a strange thinking, but it does get your mind going, and
not about what you could be doing or what you will do, but
about what is happening. I can hear the wind outside, the
birds chirping, not the TV or humming of my systems, noise
that causes my mind to blank, noise that helps me rest.
This is the first time in three weeks that I am not working
on my animation, my mind needs the rest. I can see roughs
of the script, I am writing on my drawing pad filled with
sketches of what will be. I have other things to think about,
and now I am thinking about sleep….
